What is the most important trait for hockey players-expolsive speed and first stride quickness. There are many important factors to building this all important speed. Maximum strength is a key, as are plyometrics. Plyometrics are explosive jumpng drills. Here are three really good drills for building hockey speed:
Squat Jumps-simply squat down until thighs are parallel then explode straight up as high as possible. As uu are coming down rebend your legs in to the parallel position and explode back up. Perform 2 sets of 8 reps with 2 minutes rest between.
Lateral Jumps-this is great for hockey first stride speed and power. Jump as far and high side to side. 2 sets of 8 per side.
Continous Long Jumps-perform one long jump right after the other. Spend as little time on the ground as possible. 2 sets of 10 reps.
Perform these drills 2 times per week and watch your speed and power increase rapidly. You can get all of these great drills by purchasing your copy of Hockey Speed and Power now.
